Students win big in citywide NYC jazz festival competition

Congratulations to our students, taking five out of six winning spots in a citywide NYC jazz competition, hosted by the Queens OverGround Jazz Festival. Three students– Gilberto Moretti-Hamilton (drums), Jonathan Berroa (piano), and Caleb Fumusa (alto saxophone)– are taught by NYJA® founder Javier Arau and attend Special Music School High School in Manhattan. Two students are taught by NYJA® lead instructor Peck Allmond, including Zoe Sperduto, a guitar student in the NYJA® college-prep program, and Chloe-Marie Pauyo, a flute student in Allmond’s private studio. Michael Farina, a talented tenor saxophonist also in Peck Allmond’s studio and ensemble program, received a special citation as an outstanding soloist. Winning performances will be broadcast as part of the Queens OverGround Winter Jazz Fest at https://www.culturelablic.org/qjog
