Jazz Improv Workshops (Manhattan)
This is the general tuition registration page for all Manhattan weekday NYJA® Jazz Improv Workshops. Please submit your registration for your workshop through this page.
New York Jazz Academy® Jazz Improv Workshops programs bring together players of similar levels and goals, in an effort to develop as jazz improvisers while working on core repertoire in the jazz canon. NYJA® Jazz Improv Workshops make a perfect complement to NYJA® small ensembles, and they are appropriate for any player wanting to work more intently on improv specifics including vocabulary and developing a stronger sense of jazz style. Classes are repertoire-driven, with an emphasis placed on learning and immediately applying material. Core repertoire tends to cover “jam session” and “real book” standards and genres, and courses move far beyond simply passing out a lead sheet and “jamming” on tunes. Your goal in these workshops should be the same as ours, to help take you to the next level while enjoying working on your jazz with other like-minded students.
Most NYJA® Jazz Improv Workshops meet for 8 55min weekly sessions per semester. Occasionally, a workshop will meet for 7 or 9 sessions, depending on calendar holidays. A concert/performance date may, on occasion, be added, either as an extra session or as a substitute session.
Schedules and locations are coordinated with each student through the NYJA® Office. View the school calendar here.
