About Private Music Lessons

While our programs provide intensive and personalized instruction, every musician's development can be greatly enhanced through private lessons. Lessons are available at your home, at a music rehearsal studio, or at the teacher's private studio. Our teachers all must meet strict criteria as educators and musicians. They are also selected based on their communication skills and ability to work well with students of all ages. Lessons are 55-60 minutes. Tuition payment schedules are flexible, and you can start and end at any time. All lesson packages expire 180 days from date of purchase, giving you plenty of time to schedule and use all your lessons.

How it works

Starting private lessons with NYJA is simple. First, choose and prepay for a lesson package. Once you have registered for lessons, we will contact you via email within 48 business hours to facilitate scheduling and placement with your teacher.

Teacher Locations

Manhattan, Brooklyn, an Queens lessons are held in various private teaching studios. If you live in Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Queens, chances are there is a NYJA teacher very close to you. For the ultimate in convenience, we also offer lessons in your own home. Feel free to browse our teaching roster and teacher locations. If you live on or near Long Island, you can sign up for lessons held at our state-of-the-art facilities in Mineola.

Scheduling

Lesson schedules are made by appointment. After you have registered for a lesson, you may arrange your lesson schedule directly with your teacher. If you are concerned that your schedule may not align with a teacher's schedule, we may be able to help you with scheduling before you complete your registration.

Flexibility

You come up with a lesson schedule that works for you. While many NYJA students stick with lessons every week, others find that a lesson every other week is more manageable. Feel free to discuss your options with your private teacher. NYJA private lessons are also designed to accommodate busy schedules. All lesson packages have expiration dates that are 180 days from date of purchase. So, even if you purchase only 4 lessons, you have a total of six months to use your lessons.

Scheduling Guarantee

If your schedule is quite erratic, we recommend that you pay lesson-to-lesson with a "One (1) Lesson Package." If you prepay for a "One (1) Lesson Package" and you cannot find, and agree upon, a time with your private teacher within 180 days from date of purchase, we will refund your prepayment. This scheduling guarantee is only valid with "One (1) Lesson Packages."

Cancellation Policies

If you must cancel a lesson, please contact the NYJA office in writing (email or letter) at least 48 hours before your scheduled lesson. Lessons in the teacher's studio must be cancelled within 48 hours of the scheduled lesson time in order for the student to receive a makeup lesson. Makeup lessons will be scheduled by the teacher. Lessons that are not cancelled at least 48 hours before your scheduled lesson time will be forfeited.
